What is a CMS?
The vast majority of websites these days are built on top of a Content Management System (CMS) of some kind. A Content Management System provides a website owner with a friendly and easy to use ‘back-end’ where they can go in and change the content of their website without having to write any code.
There are loads of Content Management Systems out there, and all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. Our choice for a Content Management System for the websites we build is Umbraco. It is our choice because it provides an outstanding foundation for us to develop fantastic, clean and modern websites with an easy and intuitive ‘back-end’ area to allow our clients to control the content of their websites.
Chances are you probably haven't heard of Umbraco before, but Umbraco has been around since 2000. Over the years it has evolved and matured and is now the trusted content management system for thousands of sites, including the websites of some major international household names. Why we love Umbraco
Umbraco speaks our language.
As a company, we mainly develop software and web-solutions on Microsoft’s ASP.NET platform. Umbraco is built for the ASP.NET platform and is designed to allow developers, such ourselves, us to expand and add advanced and robust functionality to client’s sites without having to resort to, potentially troublesome, third-party plugins.
If you want an eCommerce website; a private ‘members-only’ area of your website; or you want to integrate other systems and services into your website, Umbraco either has the functionality built in already, or easily lets us build that on.
Umbraco gives us as developers enormous scope to design and develop a website exactly as our clients want and with whatever functionality is required.
Umbraco speaks your language
Umbraco provides a fantastic and easy to use ‘back-end’ for our clients, where they can go in and edit the content of their website. Create a new page, enter the text and uploading media (such as photos) is easy using the intuitive WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor; when you’re done, click ‘Publish’ and its live on your website.
Managing the content of your site is easy too, you can split your site up into as many sections as you like and have as many pages (or sub-sections) as you want under them. If you wanted an eCommerce solution to sell products online, Umbraco can be adapted and provides an excellent interface to manage products within your store.
Umbraco’s back-end interface makes it easy to manage sites with lots of pages and content, which is why its virtually impossible for an organisation to outgrow Umbraco, making it suitable for all sizes of business, from start-ups to multinationals.
